About Steve A. Baker

Steve, a Senior Associate, is a Roanoke native who built the foundation of his career close to home. Steve graduated from Roanoke College in May 2001, with honors, earning a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, a minor in French, and a concentration in Marketing. He later attended George Mason University School of Law, graduating with a Juris Doctorate degree in 2005.

Early in his practice, Steve worked in both insurance defense and plaintiff-side personal injury, giving him a balanced perspective on how cases unfold and how meaningful resolutions are reached. He founded the Baker Law Firm in 2011 and later joined Roanoke College full-time as a Lecturer, as the Director of the Center for Leadership and Entrepreneurial Innovation, and as the Director of the Roanoke College Innovation Challenge.

Steve’s legal experience spans various cases with specialty in personal injury. Negotiation and finding compromise solutions in challenging situations are among his strengths. Included in his list of accomplishments, he has been a part of jury trials of intentional and negligence torts, tried cases involving slip and fall, alcohol-related car crashes and truck accidents, served as local counsel in a class action involving multi-district litigation, argued a constitutional issue in the West Virginia Supreme Court and successfully appealed a jury verdict in a criminal matter that was overturned in the VA Court of Appeals. His ability to be both intellectual and practical has aided in his career accomplishments.

Community involvement is a core part of Steve’s life. He is an active member of Rotary Club of Salem, previously served on its Board of Directors, and is a recipient of the Paul Harris Award. Steve offers guidance to business owners throughout the region, he volunteers with Sleep in Heavenly Peace which is a charitable organization that builds and delivers beds for local children, and Steve participates each year in The Giving Back Society’s Charity Fashion Show. Steve and the Firm actively support local causes, including 5 Points Music Sanctuary, which raises disability awareness through the power of music, and Brain Injury Services of SWVA, providing crucial support and resources to individuals and families navigating life after a brain injury.

Steve resides in Roanoke with his daughter, Sophie, and his loyal black Labrador retriever, Rac. An avid sports enthusiast, he follows Roanoke College athletics, the Pittsburgh Steelers, and just about any soccer match he can find. When he’s not advocating for clients, he enjoys taking advantage of Roanoke’s many outdoor options, including hiking, golfing, driving the Parkway, and enjoying his passion, the Mill Mountain Zoo.
