National Dog Bite Prevention Week

This week is National Dog Bite Prevention!  According to the American Veterinary Medical Association, about 4.5 Million Americans are bitten by dogs each year, and almost a fifth of those incidents require medical attention. Children are the most common victims of dog bites and are more likely to be severely injured. Most dog bites affecting young children occur during everyday activities and while interacting with familiar dogs. Senior citizens are considered the second most common dog bite victims.

John Oliver New Year's Resolution Advice

It's a new year and plenty of people create New Year's Resolutions. We all know how the gym looks the first 2 weeks into the year and on the third week it's a ghost town. John Oliver spoke about New Year's Resolutions and said statistically if you haven't broken yours yet, you will soon. "His sound advice was not on how to keep those inevitably broken promises but 'how to revise them once you’ve failed.'” More information on his interesting advice can be found below.

 

Trusville Nursing Home Shut Down

The Trusville nursing home closed after reports of neglect and problems with care."The National Center on Elder Abuse interviewed 2,000 nursing home residents. 44 percent reported being abused and 95 percent said they’d seen others abused or neglected." A family received a call one day about a "spontaneous fracture" of a family member and 5-6 weeks later that member passed away. The accident was unintentional, but fully preventable. The nursing home attempted to cover it up and actually left the family member in the nursing home for 4 days with 2 broken bones "just lying there."
